Obituary

Catherine C. (Noble) Papas, 96 born June 29, 1926, passed away at Canton Christian Home in the early

hours of October 11, 2022. She was born in Mingo Junction, Ohio to Mary Ann (Gallagher) Noble and

Harry Grant Noble. She was a loving wife, caring mother and devout Christian.

Catherine was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Gust Papas, in 2003. She came to

Canton, during her senior year of high school and attended Lincoln High. Little did she know that would

begin a lifelong journey, by meeting her husband to be, at the former First Methodist Church in Canton.

She then finished her undergraduate degree at Kent State University, while teaching as a "Cadet"

teacher. She taught 5 th grade in the Perry School System until her retirement. Catherine's involvement

in Community endeavors, such as College Club, Canton Women's Club, First Ladies Library and the

McKinley Museum were always a joy.

Catherine is survived by daughter and son-in-law Jan and John Gramer and son and daughter-in-law

Scott and Mary Papas. She had 5 grandsons, 5 great-granddaughters and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

There were many close friends who were instrumental in helping her through her final stages of hospice

that included several months of care. A special thanks goes to Sue and Walt Gawron and Steve and

Sandy Grazier for their omnipresence, in making themselves available at the drop of a hat. The Care

Ministers from Church of the Lakes, Betsy Williams and Sally Graven were so kind and generous with

their visitations and friendship. The nursing staff and aides at the Canton Christian Home are to be

commended for the gentle way they cared for her, while she was bed-ridden for the past several

months. One could ask for no more. The staff of Crossroads Hospice provided dignified and

compassionate care throughout the final stages of Catherine's life. They were a blessing.

Catherine has requested a private service.
