Obituary

Carolyn Jane McQueen passed away peacefully on March 13th, 2024. Born on November 23, 1927, in Rockford, Illinois, Carolyn was the daughter of Francese and George Hubbard. Her early years were spent in Albany, New York, and Erie, PA, before moving to Canton in grade school.

Carolyn graduated from Lehman High School in 1945. Her passion for education led her to The Ohio State University, where she earned her Elementary Teaching certificate. Carolyn's commitment to nurturing young minds saw her teach grade school in Lisbon and Jackson Township.

Carolyn met Robert Lyman McQueen at a Lehman Class reunion. Their wedding on May 28th, 1950, marked the beginning of a shared partnership lasting 54 years until his passing.

Carolyn's faith was a cornerstone of her life, evident in her role as a charter member of Faith United Methodist Church. She lent her voice to the church choir for many years. She was a proud member of various organizations, including the Canton Jaycee Auxiliary, the Junior Women's Club, Chapter BB of the PEO Sisterhood and Church Women United. Her involvement extended to charitable endeavors, including the North Canton Meals on Wheels and the Community Christmas Club.

A woman of many talents, Carolyn found joy in creative pursuits. Whether embroidering intricate designs, crafting beautiful quilts, or penning her unique style of poetry, she infused each endeavor with her creativity and passion. Her "brand "of bridge brought friends together, fostering laughter and camaraderie.

Carolyn's passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but her legacy of kindness, generosity, and community spirit will endure. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Kathryn (Oyster) Hubbard, her husband, Robert, brothers Robert and George Hubbard, and sister Joanne (Oyster) Moock. She is survived by her sister Jane (Oyster) James, children David (Denise) McQueen, Elizabeth (Greg) Sesler, Virginia (Bruce) Kamph, and Richard (Karen) McQueen, along with eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In celebrating Carolyn's life, let us carry forward her legacy of compassion, service, and love for one another. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. We especially want to thank the Staff at Aviva Hills and Advantage Hospice. Their compassion and unwavering support over the last few months in taking care of Carolyn has been exceptional and has meant so much to our family.

A celebration of life will take place Saturday, May 18th at 11:00 am at Faith United Methodist Church, 300 9th Street NW, North Canton, OH 44720. Friends may call from 10:00 am to 11:00am.
