Carol Jones Hoover, wife of the late Joseph Schiltz Hoover, died Sunday, December 12th at her home in Rye, NY. Mrs. Hoover was the daughter of the late Charles William and Florence Moody Jones of Highland Park, Il. Carol was a graduate of Highland Park High School and Wellesley College. She was recruited as a civilian to work for the United States Navy in Washington, DC during World War II. She met Joseph Hoover on a ski train to Sun Valley, ID. They were married in 1948 and settled on Rose Lane in North Canton where she resided until 2004. Joseph Hoover, grandson of W. H. "Boss" Hoover, became Vice Chairman and Secretary of the Hoover Company. Mrs. Hoover was a dedicated wife and mother with a strong sense of civic responsibility. She was an active member of the Aultman Hospital Women's Board, the Junior League of Canton and the Line & Design Garden Club. She delighted in her love of early American furnishings, art and architecture. She is survived by her children Catherine Petros (Raymond) of Golden, CO; Elizabeth Sexton (Carlton) of Towson, MD; Michael Hoover (Janet) of Greenwich, CT; Ann Maddox of Towson, MD; Jane Delano of New Canaan, CT. and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Hoover, brother Kenneth Jones of Timonium, MD, and grandchild Michael Maddox of Towson, MD. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Community Christian Church at 210 N. Main St. in North Canton with Dr. Don Baird. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church vestibule. She will be interred in a private ceremony in North Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to the Joseph S. and Carol Hoover Philanthropic Fund at Stark Community Foundation, 400 Market Ave. N., Suite 200, Canton, OH 44702
