Obituary

Carol A. Carr, age 80 of Canton, passed away early Friday morning in Aultman Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born in Canton to the late John and Mildred Elizabeth (Wheeler) Swope. Carol was a graduate of Lehman High School and was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church. She was employed by the Hoover Company, where she met her late husband, Lyle Carr. Carol was a loving wife and mother. Her seven grandchildren were the joy of her life; she was their beloved "Nanny". For many years she had her own business, creating floral arrangements and working for several interior designers. She was a long-time volunteer at the Aultman Hospital Gift Shop and was involved in the blanket ministry at her church. She enjoyed needlework, gardening, and entertaining in her home. She chaired the very first Christkindl Markt, a cherished Canton tradition. She had the vision to start this juried craft show, which continues on as northeast Ohio's premier fine arts/craft event. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lyle Carr, and brother J. David Swope. Carol is survived by two daughters: Sarah (Tim) Wenger of Gahanna, OH and Laura (Richard) Milligan of Canton; son: Steve Carr of Key West, FL; and seven grandchildren: Amanda, Kevin, Rachel, Sarah, Anna, Lindsey and Faith. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, July 25, 2015 in Christ Presbyterian Church with Rev. David de Vries officiating. A private interment will be in North Canton Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 10 to 11:45 a.m. in the church parlor. With heartfelt thanks for the exceptional care she received from the staff of Aultman Hospital, Aultman Specialty Hospital, and Aultman Woodlawn: Willow wing, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in her name to The Aultman Foundation (2600 Sixth St. SW, Canton 44710). Please sign the guest book.
