Carl J. Bernhard, age 88, of North Canton, Ohio, went home to be with Lord Jesus on Friday, April 2, 2010. Born in Canton to Paul E. and Helen (Hanzlich) Bernhard on November 6, 1921. Carl was a 1939 graduate of Canton McKinley High School and a graduate of the University of Akron. Carl served in World War II in the European Theatre with the 14th Armored Division. Carl retired after 37 years of service from Goodyear Aerospace Engineering Division in 1985. A charter member of Greenwood Christian Church, Carl was currently a member of First Christian Church. Carl was affiliated with various Masonic Bodies and was also a member of the Tadmor Shrine. Preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Edith (Newell) Bernhard. Survived by sons Rod (Karen) Bernhard of Janesville, Minnesota, Bruce (Becky) Bernhard, Daughter; Pam Bernhard all of North Canton. Five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, Sister; Mildred Downerd of Clearwater, Florida and several nieces and nephews. A Masonic service will be Tuesday 7:00 PM in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W. to be followed by a funeral service with Rev. Jeff Bullock officiating. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service. (6 to 7 P.M.) A private interment will be held for the family in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Canton Shrine Club Hospital Transportation Unit c/o Tadmor Shrine 3000 Krebs Drive, Akron, Ohio 44319. .
