Carl T. (Tom) Athey, age 67, of Hartville, passed away Monday, July 12, 2010, after a lengthy illness. Tom was born on August 3, 1942 in Parkersburg, West Virginia to the late Carl and Wanda (Haynes) Athey. After graduating from High School, Tom served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. Upon his return, Tom served in the Army Reserves for an additional four years. He retired from Goodyear Aerospace, where he worked in the Brake and Aerospace Division. Preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Sue Athey August 25, 2002; he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Greg and Melanie Athey of Hartville; mother-in-law Pauline Bigler of Green; sister and brother-in-law Judy and Tom Suchan of Akron; Sister-in-law and brother-in-law Virginia and Dennis Engler of California and other relatives and friends. Tom enjoyed traveling, watching football, bowling, and relaxing by his pool. He had a lifelong appreciation of music and above all, Tom loved being with his family and friends. Calling hours will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday, July 15th at Arnolds Funeral Home (504 W. Maple St., Hartville). A graveside service will be held at 10am on July 16th, at Greenlawn Cemetery (2580 Romig Road in Akron) with Pastor Mike Shaub officiating.
