Blanche. W. Rubin, age 85 of Canton, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 18, 2006 with her family by her side. Blanche was born April 16, 1921 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Charles and Irma (Schoen) Wenar and graduated from Goucher College in Townsend, Maryland. She adopted Canton as her home in 1962, where she and her late husband Howard operated a successful employment agency for 30 years and were members of Temple Israel. A 50-year member of the League of Women Voters, Mrs. Rubin served in many capacities in the local organization in addition to being the President of the League of Women Voters of Ohio during the Equal Rights Amendment debate. Devoted to educating voters, she was instrumental in the publication of several editions of "Know Your Stark County Government." She was an active volunteer helping to create recordings for the blind. Other organizations which benefited from her leadership have included the Stark County Department of Human Services Children's Advisory Board, the Jewish Community Center Meals on Wheels, the Wilderness Center, North Canton Area Democratic Club, and Jewish Family Services Committee. She was active in several book clubs and was always known to be reading several books at a time. Mrs. Rubin's husband, Howard S. Rubin preceded her in death in 1995. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Howard S. and Connie Rubin Jr. of Canton, Herman Rubin of Canton; sister, Essie Samuels; brother, Charles Wenar and two grandchildren, Ellen and Alice Rubin. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, October 22 at 2:30 pm with Cantor Bruce Braun officiating at Temple Israel, 333 25th St. NW, Canton, with a reception to follow.
