Betty J. Spring, age 89, of Canton, died Thursday evening in her residence after a brief illness. Born in Canton to the late Walter and Christina (Johnson) Walker, she was a life resident. Betty was a graduate of East Canton High School and the Mercy School of Nursing, she was training to be an Army Cadet Nurse prior to the war ending, she graduated in 1946. As a registered nurse, she was a lifelong participant of the Harvard Nurses Program. Betty was a fabulous cook, caring for all of her friends and extended family; she also loved to golf which she learned to play at the age of 40. In addition to her parents Betty was preceded in death by a son: Thomas Charles Spring in 1989 and her husband of 61 years Donald C. Spring in 2007. She is survived by two daughters: Susan E. Spring of Port St. Lucie, FL and Patti (Neil) Slabaugh of Massillon, OH. Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in the Chapel of Trinity United Church of Christ with Rev. Mary Willis officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 11:30 to 12:45 P.M. in the Church Parlor.
