Betty E. Odar (Nee Salsbury), died Monday, March 6, 2017 in Aultman Compassionate Care Center at age 101. She was born February 23, 1916 in Barberton, Ohio to Harry and Laura (Shelter) Salsbury. Betty lived most of her life in Canton, was a 1934 graduate of McKinley High School and graduated from Canton Actual Business College. Betty was active for many years in a variety of charitable and civic organizations, including a Girl Scout troop at Avondale School and a tour escort and programming coordinator at Y.W.C.A., where she received a volunteer award of the year. She was over a 60 year member of Church of the Savior United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school and classes for 25 years. Betty was active at the Wilderness Center, member of Afternoon Garden Club and President of Canton Garden Center. She also enjoyed baking cookies for friends. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Stanley. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Shirley) Odar of Canton; daughter, Diane Serdengecti of Novato, California; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and a cousin, Donald Shelter. Private services were held for the family with Rev. Nancy Conley officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Navarre. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of the Savior United Methodist Church "Crossroads" 120 Cleveland Ave. S.W., Canton, Ohio 44702, Canton Garden Center 1615 Stadium Park Drive N.W., Canton, Ohio 44718 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
