Obituary

Betty L. Erb Betty went home to be with her Lord on September 14,2013 after an extended illness. She was born on May 1,1929 in Hartville, Ohio where she lived most of her life until moving to Walnut Hills Retirement Center in Walnut Creek, Ohio 5 years ago. Betty was the daughter of the late Abe and Elizabeth (Coblentz) Erb. They were founding members of Maple Grove Mennonite Church where Betty taught many children in Sunday School, including her doctor, Titus Dutcher. She attended Business College after attending Greentown Schools. She worked at Timken Mercy Hospital for many years as supervisor of accounts and collections. Her true vocation was as a caregiver. She cared for her sister, Mary Schmidt (Harry),after her heart attack until her death, then her father, and then her many nieces and nephews. She retired from Mercy in 1991 to care for her mother in the home. Her reputation for her excellent compassionate care led her to be a caregiver for several other members of the community until her own health started to decline at the age of 80. Betty was on the finance committee for the original Hartville Thrift Store, she sang in the choir for the Christmas Cantata, was a faithful blood donor for the Red Cross, and loved to walk. She was known at Walnut Hills as a power walker and wore paths in the hallways with her walker. In addition to her parents, Abe and Elizabeth, and her sister, Mary, she was preceded in death by her brother, Aden Erb of Sarasota, Florida. She is survived by brother, Cal (Pam) Erb of Sarasota; sisters, Erma (John V.) Raber of Wilmot, OH; Martha (Dick) Beachy of Waynesburg, OH; Edna (Sam) Mast of Batesburg, SC; and Sara Doster of Sarasota; sister in law, Verla Erb, of Sarasota and her many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, September 15 from 6-8pm and services Monday, September 16 at 10 am both at Maple Grove Mennonite Church, Smith Kramer Rd. Hartville, OH. Services will be officiated by Sam Mast and Pastor Larry Augsburger. Internment at Walnut Grove Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staffs of Walnut Hills, and Hospice of Wooster, for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice of Wooster or Maple Grove Mennonite Church. Arnold 330-877-9364 www.arnoldfuneralhome.com
