Bessie Elaine (Evans) Gloss, age 89, of Canton, passed away April 27, 2009 at St. Luke Lutheran Home. Born in Canton on May 12, 1919 to Stanley J. and Jane (McCoy) Evans, she graduated from McKinley High School and Kent State University. On February 20, 1942 she married her high school sweetheart Paul H. Gloss. In 1979, Mrs. Gloss retired from the Plain Local Schools where she enjoyed teaching second grade for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 1987; brothers and sister-in-law Thomas S. Evans, Dr. Robert L. Evans, and Dr. Stanley T. & Alice Evans; and brother-in-law Ralph Gloss. She is survived by son Steven P. Gloss of New Mexico; daughter and son-in-law Jane & Larry McHenry of North Canton; grandchildren Mike and David Gloss, Nicole Ball and Luke Dowling, Alexis Ball and Eduardo Crespo, Matt and Toby McHenry, Scott and Hilary McHenry, and Leigh Ann and John Neff; great-grandchildren Christopher and Tyler Gloss, Robin Gloss, Ada and Elliot Ball-Dowling, and Isaac McHenry; sisters-in-law Madelene Evans, Polly Evans, and Elnora Gloss; special cousins, nieces, and nephews. Calling hours are Thursday 6-8 PM in the Arnold Funeral Home and Friday 1-2 PM, with funeral services following at 2 PM Friday, with Pastor Wendy Bausman of Christ Presbyterian Church officiating. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
