Bernard I. Hafner, age 79, of Canton, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Bethany Nursing Home. He was born February 4, 1936 in Berlin, Germany to Paul and Elsa (Schindler) Hafner. He immigrated with his family to the United States in September 1938 to escape the Nazi's.
Bernie graduated from John Adams High School in Cleveland in 1954 and Ohio State University Pharmacy School in 1959. He was a retail and hospital pharmacist at Schuman Drugs, Aultman and Doctor's Hospital for 49 years and was a member of Shaaray Torah Synagogue.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Doree; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Doug Wagner; son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Allyson Hafner; grandchildren, Britt and Blaine Hafner, Stefan and Whitney Wagner.
Funeral services will be Monday 1:00 p.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home in Canton with Cantor Bruce Braun officiating. Interment will be in Canton Hebrew Cemetery. In liu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shaaray Torah Synagogue or St. Jude's Hospital. The family thanks Bethany Nursing Home and Crossroads Hospice for their excellent and Compassionate care.
