Obituary

Bernadine J. Nickels, age 97 of Massillon passed away Sunday morning May 2, 2021 at home with her daughter Pamela by her side. She was born August 4, 1923 in Cleveland to John and Mary (Talicska) Spisak and graduated from St. Margaret High School in Cleveland, Class of 1940. Betty, right after high school, had the opportunity to dance with The Tommy Dorsey Band and Frank Sinatra when they were in Cleveland. She married William Conrad Nickels on July 18, 1942. She was a homemaker and loved traveling with her family, gardening and enjoying coffee and meals with her friends. She was a longtime active member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.

Preceded in death by her husband William in 1985; son Conrad "Nick" Earl Nickels; sisters Lillian Renn and Delores Namiey; and brother John Spisak. Survivors include daughter Pamela (Dan) Novak; sons William Conrad (Charlene) Nickels Jr. and John Frederick Nickels; daughter-in-law Andrea Nickels; sister Mary Yehoda; brother James Spisak; five grandchildren Stephanie (Chuck) Baglia, Michael (Amy) Shaeffer, Cory (Stephanie) Nickels, Christine (Brian) Bunker, Laci Nickels; and eight great-grandchildren Brock Zahler, Spencer Baglia, Pacen Baglia, Prue Baglia, Emily Shaeffer, Isabelle Bunker, Abigail Bunker, Kaylie Nickels.

Calling hours will be Wednesday 2-4:00 p.m. at the Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 Market Ave N, Canton. Funeral services will begin at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Luzecky officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in California.
