Obituary

Benjamin J. (Benny) Hirsch, age 96, born in Akron October 11, 1918 to Harry and Freda Hirsch passed away at Windsor Medical Center Thursday April 16, 2015. He was raised and educated in Akron and proudly served in the U. S. Army in Australia and New Guinea during WW II. Ben was the dedicated owner of Summit Equipment & Supplies in Akron and worked hard until the age of 92. He was past member and board member of Revere Road (Anshe Sfard) Synagogue and a longtime member of Menorah Club. In his earlier days he was an excellent golfer and participated in tournaments in the Akron area. Ben is survived by his beloved Bea Pearlman, his daughter Susan (Robert) Narens of Canton; sisters Ann Mack and Rookie Hirsch of California and Shirley Gale of Arizona; grandchildren Lori Hirsch, Erin Hirsch, Matthew (Michele) Narens, Joseph (Kristy) Narens, Rachel (Viktor) Izakowicz; great-grandchildren River, Henry, Jack, Jacob, Andrew and Benjamin. Ben was preceded in death by his wife Helen Hirsch and his son Michael Hirsch; his brother Louis Hirsch and sister Helen Goldstein. A graveside service will be held Sunday 1:00 PM at Anshe Sfard Cemetery, 310 Swartz Rd., Akron, OH 44319, with Rabbi Mendy Sasonkin, Rabbi Jon Adland and Rabbi John Spitzer officiating.
