Obituary

Barbara (Frankel) Rosenfield, age 77, of Canton, passed away Tuesday evening, April 5, 2011 in Windsor Medical Center. Born and raised in Buffalo, New York to Albert & Leah (Goldberg) Frankel on October 23, 1933. Barbara graduated from the University of Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1955 and received her Masters Degree in Counseling from Walsh University in 1984. She was licensed by the State of Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. She started her career in 1966 as a Caseworker at the St. Joseph County Department of Public Welfare in South Bend, Indiana before moving to Canton in 1969 where she worked in the Adoption and Counseling Departments at Community Services of Stark County, Inc. (formerly Catholic Community league). She became Director of Clinical Services in 1989. Following her retirement in January 2000, she continued working part time as a counselor at the agency until 2005. Barbara served on the board of Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Stark County Inc. and more recently on the Advisory Committee of Jewish Family Services. She was a member of Temple Israel, Hadassah and Temple Israel Sisterhood and volunteered in the gift shop at Mercy Medical Center and the office at Temple Israel. Preceded in death by a granddaughter, Allison Jill Rosenfield, she is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard; son, David (Nancy) Rosenfield of Short Hills, New Jersey; daughters, Jane (Derrick) Black of Charlotte, North Carolina and Anne (Michael) Port of Solon, Ohio; grandchildren, Lauren & Daniel Rosenfield, Brian, Samantha & Jordan Black and Alex, Jessica & Steven Port; brother and sister-in-law, Bud & Mimi Frankel of Chicago, Illinois. Honoring her wishes, Barbara will be cremated. To celebrate her life, Memorial Services will be held at the Arnold Funeral Home in Canton, 1517 Market Ave N. on Friday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m. with Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. In lieu of flowers, Barbara requested donations in her memory be made to Temple Israel, 2631 Harvard Ave NW, Canton, Ohio 44709, Foundation for Diabetes Research, 513 West Mt.
