IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Artie
Rosenstock
May 25, 1935 – May 24, 2012
ARTHUR (ARTIE) ROSENSTOCK Artie Rosenstock passed away peacefully in his sleep after a brief but valiant struggle with cancer on Thursday, May 24th, a day shy of his 77th birthday. Artie was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 25, 1935. He attended New York University, then transferred to Ohio State University. There he met his wife, the former Barbara Leitz, and they were married in June of 1957. Artie joined his father-in-law, Martin Leitz, in business at Martinat Wine Co., a wholesale wine distributorship. He loved the business and was greatly admired by his employees for his unique ability to lead while still being "one of the guys". It was not unusual to see Artie in the warehouse at 5am unloading cases of wine alongside his truck drivers. He was known for his great sense of humor, quick wit, his loyalty to friends and his wise counsel. He was a genuine sports nut, especially for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was the "go to guy" for all kinds of sports trivia before there was Google. He was a born leader, having served as president of his college fraternity, Tau Epsilon Phi, as well as President of the Canton Jewish Community Center both in the l980's and the 1990's, Foreman of the Stark County Grand Jury and Vice President of the United Way of Stark County. He was also a member of the Temple Israel Finance and Budget committees, United Way Budget committees, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Minority Economic Development committee and a mentor for Project Wheelbarrow. He was also a member of the Ohio Wholesale Wine Distributors Association and served in the National Guard. He sold Martinat Wine Company in 1994. He had been influenced by the early deaths of three of his closest friends and wanted to enjoy life while young enough to do so. He and Barbara traveled to over 75 countries and he played a lot of golf and bridge, worked out and attended numerous sporting events. But after 5 years of retirement he returned to work as part-time Endowment Director of the Canton Jewish Community Federation, a position he held for 13 years until shortly before his death. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Sara Rosenstock, brothers-in-law Peter H. Cahn and Bert Rabinowitz and niece Nancy Block Zenna. He is survived by four children, Eric (Rick) Rosenstock (Lisa) of Madison, WI, Robyn Kessler (Jonathan) of Moscow, Russia, Dana Siegel (Jeffrey) of Pittsfield, MA and Joan Baron (Bill) of Park City, UT. He is also survived by two sisters Roberta Rabinowitz of Boynton Beach, FL and Shelly Block (Stan) of Brooklyn, NY and sister-in-law Susan Leitz Cahn of Indianapolis, IN. He left behind his most prized possessions, his eight grandchildren, Jayme, Kylie, Lauren and Mara Rosenstock, Aaron and Micah Siegel, and Matthew and Andrew Baron. Services will be held at the Arnold Funeral Home at 1517 North Market Avenue, Canton, OH on Monday, May 28th at 10:00am with Rabbi Jon Adland officiating. Final resting place is North Lawn Cemetery. The family will be receiving visitors at the home on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9pm. Contributions in his name may be made to the Canton Jewish Community Federation, 2631 Harvard Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44709 or Aultman Compassionate Care Center, 2821 Woodlawn Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44708. The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful doctors, nurses and aides he encountered throughout his illness for their unbelievable compassion and concern.
