Arlene M. (Barnett) Shanks, age 85, of Canton passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2006 after a brief illness. Born in Canton Arlene was a 1939 graduate of McKinley High School. She was a member of Church of the Covenant and had been a Red Cross Volunteer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years: James Shanks, Jr. and her sister: Mildred Read. Arlene is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Bradley and Catherine Shanks of Wilson, NC: a granddaughter and husband Staci and Randy Jackson of Fletcher, NC grandson and his wife Douglas and Leigh Shanks of Roanoke, VA. As well a two great grandchildren: Zoe Jackson and Grant Shanks. Arlene was also blessed by many good and faithful friends who touched her life. A funeral service in celebration of her life will be 1:30 P.M. Thursday in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W. with Rev. William Watt officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Stark County 3611 Whipple Ave., N.W.
