Obituary

Ardis J. DeHoff, born October 23rd, 1917, had a love and appreciation of life that ended peacefully four days prior to her 95th birthday. Ardis, one of three children, was born and raised in Canton, graduated from McKinley High School, and always maintained her gratitude and appreciation for her community. Ardis, and her sister Ginny, performed and taught tap and ballet in the homes of many local families while attending junior high and high school. These foundations of discipline, grace, and the love of dance never left her side. At the young age of 65, daunting a high hat and tails, her solo tap performance for a local variety show earned her a standing ovation. Following graduation, Ardis began working at the Hoover Company near the office of a handsome and dapper gentleman by the name of Glenn DeHoff. Glenn soon swept the McKinley High cheerleader off of her feet. He invited Ardis to his home in East Canton to meet his dog Skippy, who he trained to climb a two-story ladder and come back down. Ardis said she was so impressed she married him one year later and their lives together in East Canton began. They recognized it as a great place to start and raise their family where they became active participants in the community and their church where Ardis taught Sunday school. Outnumbered with three men under her roof Ardis soon learned that if you can't beat em, join em and with that she took up fishing with a passion and still holds the family record for landing the largest bass. Ardis & Glenn were blessed with two sons, Bill and Bob, and they were her great pride and joy. Ardis's love of beauty for flowers and flower arranging was expressed through her active participation in many garden clubs including the Louisville, Congress Lake, Sans Souci and Canton Garden Clubs, serving as the President of the Canton Garden Center and later as a highly respected flower arranging judge. She was a member of the Aultman Women's Board, P.E.O. and as her sons grew so did her commitment to a career in real estate leading her to the Martin Surbey Real Estate Agency in North Canton in 1962. Focused, disciplined and enthusiastic, she quickly became skilled as a Realtor, helping others fulfill their dream of home ownership. When presented with the opportunity to own her own company Ardis jumped in with much enthusiasm and Glenn soon joined her. Joined in love and a mutual purpose, both real estate careers were launched. Ardis, eventually became both Realtor and Broker of the Year, and in 2005 was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Stark County Board of Realtors. Preceded in death by her husband Glenn of 63 years she is survived by her sons Bill ( wife Sara Jane) and Bob ( wife Linda) grandchildren, Molly DeHoff Holtzer (husband Barry), Dan DeHoff (wife Allison) and Owen DeHoff ( wife Courtney),and step children, Brennan and Ashley Kasperzak , and great-grandchildren, Bill, Joe and Jackie Holtzer , Miles DeHoff, and Hadley DeHoff respectively. The DeHoff Family has been blessed to have had Ardis (Mother, Grandmother, and GG) these 95 years and will truly miss the matriarch of the family! Ardis's joy, positive attitude and love for life drew many to her. Ardis would want to thank her caregivers, Gloria, Diana & Bobbie and to all others who assisted her, and to all her friends and card loving buddies, she would say "thank you, until we meet again".
