Obituary

A.R. (Ray) Sherban age 85 of North Canton, passed away February 9, 2012. Ray was born March 1, 1926 in Plymouth, PA to the late William and Stella (Miller) Sherban. He was a World War II Veteran having served in the Infantry in the South Pacific as a combat medic, where he earned two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Ray was honorably discharged Octobert 25, 1946. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a BS in Civil Engineering. He was employed for seven years in the Youngstown area as a steel products representative, then relocated in Canton in 1965 and was employed by The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in the Real Estate Department. In 1985 he retired from Firestone as a Senior Construction Coordinator and later became employed as a structual consultant. Ray was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, William H. Hoover Masonic Lodge 2029, Tadmor Shrine, The Military Order of the Purple Heart and was a life member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9904. He is survived by his wife Louise of 56 years, his son Craig and daughter-in-law Margaret of Greenville, SC; daughter Joan Junge and son-in-law Daniel of Powell, OH; five grandchildren Laura and Jonathan Baggs; Alan (Christy), Cameron (Jenna) and Matthew (Jenni); and three great grand children. One brother Edward and sister-in-law Anne of Brandon, Manatoba. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son-in-law Doanld T. Baggs, Jr and sister Leona. Calling hours will be Friday, February 17 at Arnold Funeral Home in Canton 5 to 8 pm. Service will be conducted at Christ Presbyterian Church on Saturday February 18 at 1:00 pm with calling hours one hour prior to the service. The Reverand David de Vries officiating. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman, Ohio on Monday February 20 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ray's memory may be made to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, 35 East Chestnut Street, Suite 408, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
