Annetta Tolley, beloved mother, steadfast friend, and strong and independent woman, Annetta Tolley left this world as a result of a car accident on Sunday, November 23, 2014. This is a sad and tragic loss to her family and anyone lucky enough to have known her during her 91 years. She was born October 26, 1923, the daughter of Phil Lee and Ethel Cox in Woodbine, KY. She was raised as a foster child with her father's relatives in southeastern Kentucky. She moved to Hamilton, Ohio, at the age of 19 and worked in a paper factory. In 1943, Annetta joined the Women's Army Corp and was stationed at Camp Maxie, a German POW camp in Paris, TX. She was transferred to Fort Bliss where she met Fornie D. Tolley (1917-1997). They were married January 5, 1945, in EI Paso, TX, and were together for 62 years. Annetta and Fornie settled in Canton and Plain Twp where they raised their daughters Brenda Tolley Jackson (Don) of Jackson Twp; Carol Tolley Kangas (Jon, deceased) of Venice, FL; Lois Tolley of North Canton, and son David Tolley (1969-2013). Annetta worked as a cook for various nursing homes and ended her career at Molly Stark Hospital in 1969 when David was born. Annetta was an active member of the Lesh Street Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Canton. She was on her way to services when the accident occurred. Members recall her as a gracious, devoted and inspired member. Annetta is survived by her daughters Brenda, Carol and Lois, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren: Jennifer Kangas of Tampa, FL; Kerry Jackson Frost (Michael) and children Ty and Morgan of McKinney, TX; Michelle Kangas Anderson (David) and children Ethan and Elise Brazukas and Emma Claire Anderson of Tullahoma, TN; Micah Miller of Gilbert, AZ; Allison Kangas de Bellata (Diego) and children Isadora and Diego of Medford, MA; Brooke Mendenhall and children Rei and Kainyn of Signal Mountain, TN; and Fawn Miller and son Tristan Dahler of Long Beach, CA. She is also survived by sister Irene McCue of GA and foster brother Clifton Wells of Gray, KY. Family and friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 pm at the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home, 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W. Services will be at 11 AM Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens on Frank Road beside her husband and son.
