Anne R. Gergel, a long time Hoover Company employee, whose loyalty and service endured 40 years, has passed away at 88 years. A lifetime resident she cherished her education in Canton Public Schools, graduating in 1942 from Timken High School. Because of World War II, she was sent, early in her senior year, to a wartime assignment at Wright Patterson Field, Dayton. After six years there, she returned to Canton and the Hoover Company. Through 40 years, she was assigned to many different departments and loved it. Her final position at retirement was Administrator of Hoover Executive Offices. Her parents immigrated to Ohio from Romania and met in Cleveland. They are the late John Gergel and Stella Vulcan Gergel. She had a brother, Ollie, who was inducted into the Stark County Amateur Sports Hall of Fame for Baseball. Her sister, Amelia Gravilla, was a popular hair dresser. She is a member of Christ Presbyterian Church and her favorite charities include Hillsdale College, Grove City College, Salvation Army and well-operated animal protective groups. Memorials may go to her church's repair and replacement funds. She flourished in a simple lifestyle on Bernard Avenue, Canton that included a devotion to flowers, trees and animals. Her dog, Black Jack, was a constant companion for 16 years. She is survived by a committee of friends; Sally, Phil, Bob, Nan and Steve; nieces and nephews and two cats Pooh Bear and Tiggy. Funeral service will be Wednesday, September 25th at 2 p.m. at the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home 4817 Cleveland Ave., N.W. with Rev. Eldon Trubee officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Please sign the guest book.
