Obituary

Andrew "Andy" Hoffman 1988-2017 29, of Norman, Oklahoma, died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on March 25, 2017. Andy was born on Oct. 19, 1988 in Canton, Ohio to Robert and Ellen Hoffman, and was the youngest of his three siblings. He played soccer, lacrosse and was a member of the swim team at Hoover High School, where he graduated in 2007. He studied at Wittenberg University and graduated in 2011 with a degree in physics and math. He earned a masters degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Cincinnati. Andy's accomplished engineering career included a position working on Department of Defense contracts at Lockheed Martin in New Jersey, and a job as a systems engineer at Boeing in Oklahoma. At the time of his death, Andy was working on Boeing's E-3 Sentry, an airborne early warning and control aircraft. Andy's ambitions extended outside his career. He lived life with zest, pursuing his interests in sports, cooking and travel. In addition to swim, soccer and lacrosse, Andy played many other sports, from golf to ultimate frisbee. While living in New Jersey, he coached in a children's soccer league. He also refereed for the league. Andy enjoyed playing in the kitchen, as well. He was a talented chef who created his own recipes and loved trying new foods. His adventurous nature took him on travels to Europe, and to the skies. He celebrated one birthday by flying a Cessna and marked his 28th birthday by skydiving. Andy's untimely death has left his family forever heartbroken. They will remember him most for his loving and compassionate heart, which touched everyone he met. Andy is survived by his parents, of Hartville; his siblings, Chris (Erin) Hoffman of Eugene, Ore., Nicholas of Vienna, Austria, Rachel (James) Daniel of Uniontown; nephews and nieces, Jason, Josh, Jocelyn and Jenna Daniel; aunt and uncle, Carolyn and David Cook; cousins, Carrie Scott, Jeff (Beth) Cook, Kristen Cook, Matt (Jemima) Cook; uncle, Jim (Pat) Hoffman; cousin, Josh Hoffman; and the love of his life, Joannalyn Andes. Andy will be memorialized in a private service and burial. His family is establishing a scholarship in Andy's name to benefit a member of the Hoover High School swim team. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the scholarship at a later date. (Arnold-Hartville 330-877-9364)
