Alma Cecilia Barb of Hartville went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 16 at the age of 95, due to complications from a stroke suffered on January 16. Alma was born in Jamestown, New York, on March 17, 1913, to Gustav and Klara Holmstrom. She taught school in New York state until she moved to Akron in 1941. Alma married her husband, Virgil, in 1947. She moved to Hartville in 2001 to live with her daughter and her family. Besides her parents, Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, in 1978. She also was preceded in death by siblings Sven Holmstrom, Olga Sonne and Svea Vantuyl. Alma is survived by son Brian of Cuyahoga Falls, daughter Bethany (Michael) Lewis of Hartville, grandsons Todd and Tyler Lewis of Hartville, and many nieces and nephews. Alma was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Tallmadge. She was a graduate of the University of Akron and was retired from teaching in the Akron Public Schools. Alma loved the Lord and her life was a sweet testimony for him. Her favorite Bible verse was Romans 8:28: "For we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose". She was patient, kind and generous to all, and was pleasant and appreciative to the end. We look forward to seeing her again in heaven one day. II Corinthians 5:8: "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and present with the Lord". Until then, we will miss her greatly. Alma's funeral will be on Friday, February 20 at 1 PM at the Arnold Funeral Home, 504 W. Maple Street (Rt. 619), Hartville, Ohio, with visitation two hours prior to the service.
