Obituary

Albert Irving Weinstein was born on August 4th, 1939 in Scranton, PA. He passed away Tuesday, November 20th, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Leona Weinstein of Delray, FL. Although an only child, Albert was surrounded by a close and loving family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Albert graduated from Scranton's Central High School, class of 1957, where he played baseball and football. He attended the University of Scranton, earning a BS in chemistry and biology, before moving on to Temple University to obtain his pharmacy degree. Albert was also a member of the Phi Delta Chi pharmacy fraternity. While at Temple, Albert met his wife, Beverly Lynn, and they married April 3rd, 1965. Al started his professional career in retail pharmacy in Binghamton, NY, before moving to Canton, OH in 1969 to continue his retail career for over 20 years. In the mid-90's, Al had an opportunity to join the pharmacy staff at Doctor's Hospital (later Affinity Hospital) in Massillon, OH, where he continued practicing until his retirement in 2009. In addition to being an avid fan of baseball and football, Al loved to go golfing, bowling and fly-fishing. Although he would never admit it, he carries the honor of never having been beaten in golf by his sons! In his early years, he was an accomplished saxophonist, playing for high school dances and other social functions. Throughout his life, he loved the social limelight; he was a fantastic dancer and could be counted on to be the life of any party- always quick witted with a joke on the spot. Despite his love of social settings, Al also cherished his quiet time with the family, whether spending time on the beach hunting shark teeth with his boys, or later in life visiting his children and grandchildren- nothing gave him more pride than relishing in their accomplishments. As he slowed down in retirement, Al very much enjoyed nature, and was particularly fond of feeding the birds and squirrels in his backyard. Albert is survived by his wife Lynn, and two sons, David (wife Christine) of Stow, OH and Steven (wife Lisa) of Findlay, OH. He leaves behind grandchildren Alison, Steven, Griffin and Graydin. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or your local Humane Society. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 26th from 3-4pm at Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 North Market Avenue, Canton, OH. A memorial service will immediately follow, officiated by Rabbi Jon Adland. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or your local Humane Society. Arnold 330-456-7291 www.arnoldfuenralhome.com
