Alan L. Singer, age 81, of Canton, passed away Saturday morning, April 17, 2010 in St. Joseph Care Center. He was born August 20 , 1928 in Bayonne, N.J. to Sol and Betty (Lavine) Singer. He was a member of Temple Israel where he was a past president of the board of directors. Alan was a 1950 graduate of The Ohio State University, PASSIONATE BUCKEYE and a life member of the OSU alumni association. Mr. Singer was a U.S. Army Veteran and member of the Jewish War Veterans. Alan was recognized as an Ohio Farmer of the Year. Other memberships included the Atwood Yacht Club, Commodore of the Highlander Class Sailing Association. He volunteered at Pegasus Farm and served on the National Safety Committee for the Department of Transportation. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elaine J. (Willen) Singer, daughters, Betsy S. (Rick) Lefton of Cincinnati, Sarah L. (Colin) Singer-Nourie of Cincinnati; sons, Blair M. (Eileen) Singer of Phoenix, Arizona, Timothy M. (Judith) Singer of Solon; grandchildren, Alyssa Singer, Benjamin & Zachary Singer, Lilly, Claire, Nathan, Grace, Abby Lefton, Rae, Zoe Micha Singer-Nourie. Funeral services will be Monday 1:00 p.m. at Temple Israel with Rabbi Leah Herz and Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
